As said, makeup is applied to sharpen the edges of the beauty; contour is one the ways of sharpening or enhancing the shape of the face. Let’s understand what is contour and ways to apply it.

What is contour?
Contour means the outline or the shape of something. This word has come from the Italian word ‘contorno’ and the meaning is "to draw a line," which is basically what you do when you have to trace or outline something. Contours in makeup helps in adjusting to the shape or dimensions of your face. It is a technique used in makeup for sculpting and adding dimension to your face. This can be slightly darker or lighter than your actual skin tone. Like concealer and foundation is used to exactly match your skin color, contour is used to create the effect of shadow and light.

How to apply contour?
Contouring helps in dimensioning and enhancing your natural face shape. Although, it differs from person to person due to their face shape or bone structure, the process remains the same. Let’s learn how to apply contour by the following.

How to start?
Whenever you go out, the first thing you do is bath or wash your face. Similarly you need to wash your face to prepare yourself for makeup. Then do not forget to moisturize your skin by applying some moisturizer. It helps your skin from clumping up around sort of dry skin or harsh lines on the face. Now, it is time for a primer. It acts as a buffer between your skincare and cosmetic makeup products. Primer allows them to work better and stay longer. Then, apply a matching foundation or concealer on your face. It covers the blemish and discoloration.

Time to contour
Now, it is the time for shadow which means contouring. The most familiar and easiest way of contouring is to take a darker shade of yourself. Now, take out your contour. Find your cheekbones first. To find the cheekbones, you need to suck in your cheeks. Now apply the contour underneath your cheekbones to create a shadow under your cheeks. After tracing the lines of cheekbones, it's time to follow the natural shape of your jawline and temple. You can place the shadow of contouring in one of the three places which totally depends on the shape of your face and your unique features: (a) along the both the sides of your nose; (b) in a “3” shape. It is under cheekbones and jawline, it follows your hairline; or (d) in a triangle shape which is upside down and framing your cheeks. Play around with some lines, apply contour on those areas of your face until you find the best look for your face which must work for you.
