Land Selection:

It is better to determine sandy loam or loamy soil land for potato cultivation. However, shaded lands should be avoided. Medium to high lands is suitable for potato cultivation. It is essential to have a water irrigation system on the land. To get a higher yield of potato, proper land must be selected. Land preparation: The better you prepare the land, the higher the yield. So cultivate well with care. Power tiller should be used to cultivate the soil vertically and horizontally with 4/5 deep tillage and ladder. When the soil is loose, the yield of potatoes increases. Remove the remnants of the previous crop in the land and remove the debris around the aisle. Inhibiting the growth of loose potatoes makes the size of the potato uneven and distorted. Selection of potato varieties: The selection of varieties for potato cultivation is an important task. Bangladesh currently has advanced, nabi, exportable, and industrially useful potatoes. You can sell and cultivate the varieties that are needed according to your needs.

Preparation for planting potato seeds:

Seed preparation is an important task for potato cultivation. If the seeds are not prepared well then the yield can be greatly reduced. So it is necessary to prepare the seeds carefully. For example - to germinate seed potatoes properly, to cut seed potatoes properly, etc.

Seed germination of potato: Seed should be germinated and planted. For germination, seed potatoes should be spread on the floor of the dry house till germination of dim light. Because dim light is conducive to rapid germination. As a result, the number of seedlings increases and the number of tubers increases, and the yield increases. Seed Potato Cutting: Seed potato should be cut vertically without cutting horizontally. The cut seed piece should have at least two active eyes. Seed potatoes should not be cut into small pieces and edible potatoes should not be taken out. Before cutting and occasionally wash hands, knives, pots, pans, etc. in water mixed with disinfectant (Savlon / Dettol) and wipe with a piece of cotton. After cutting, the seed pieces should be left in a cool, open room for at least 24 hours to dry the wound. When taking the seed pieces in the field, the sack should be spread in the basket. Seed pieces cannot be kept in piles. It is not right to take the cut seed in the field by filling it in sacks. Seed Potato Planting Distance: Seed to seed 6 ”inch or 15 cm. Row to row 24 ”inches or 60 centimeters.

Planting method:
Rows should be given north to south. Before starting the planting work, make a 2 ”-3” deep ditch by straightening the twine. The seed should be applied with light pressure in a vertical manner keeping the skin and eyes of the segment above. The distance from seed to seed should be measured from time to time with a measure of 15 cm (6 inches). After sowing the seeds, make a 3 ”-4” deep manure drain and apply the fertilizer in the drain.
